We’d love to see you, your whānau and friends at the Museum.

All welcome.

The Paekākāriki Station Museum presents artefacts relating to the history of Paekākāriki and its surrounding area. Items on display relate to both Māori and European settlement, the history of rail in the area and the encampment of thousands of US Marines near Mackays Crossing during World War II.

The Station Precinct Trust has restored the historic south end signal box and is responsible for the Paekākāriki Arts Walk as well as tending many historical artefacts on display in its Museum.

Watch the model train run around the roof-top layout. Learn the story of the Station Bell that went to war. Examine three different railway velocipedes that are on display.

Read about local iwi Ngāti Haumia and Ngati Toa’s warrior Te Rauparaha.

Lest we forget – Local men’s war records.

Observe how cooking was prepared in most houses of the early 19th century.

New Zealand’s only bookshop in a working railway station, Kākāriki Books, specialises in old and rare books along with collections on spirituality, alternative health, travel and New Zealand.
