STORM DAVENPORT
SCULPTOR AND PAINTER
Storm’s career as an artist spans Twenty years and encompasses both painting and sculpture. In addition she runs a business tutoring workshops. She exhibits throughout the country and her work is held by collectors both internationally and here in NZ.

Her work is shown in galleries, art shows, on social media, fundraisers, community events and art awards and she has won awards in both painting and ceramics.

Storm spent twelve years painting mainly in acrylic and oils, her work became progressively more three dimensional. This led to a pivotal switch to working in clay which has become an eight year obsession and shows no sign of slowing down. Sculptures of plants, animals, humans, hybrids and the goddesses reflect her style which can best be described as a mash up of- mid century modern meets archaeological dig.

Storm works from her home studio in Paraparaumu Beach where she has a gallery (open to the public by appointment) and teaches regular ceramic workshops. Her work is inspired by ancient civilizations and she likes using traditional firing techniques such as sawdust firing, raku and barrel firing to create refined but rustic artworks that tell a story.

The Paekakariki Art Show invited Storm to be their featured artist for 2026, so she decided to show both sculpture and paintings. This will be the first exhibition of her painting work in eight years, a series of new paintings in oils featuring moody landscapes, flowers and birds painted in the style of the old masters using soft colours and glazed backgrounds and reflections.

From small wall hung works to seven foot tall outdoor sculptures her past works include:

• The Goddess series- The moon sisters, warrior goddesses and the Earth goddesses
• The Warrior series- life size warrior heads, breast plates and weaponry
• Oceanic Life series – with whales, sharks ,stingrays, jellyfish and kina
