January 2026 Update from your Paekākāriki Community Board

Kia ora e te hapori, and happy new year from your Paekākāriki Community Board.
Over the coming months we will be expanding the “Official Stuff” section on the Paekakariki.nz website to include regular updates from your community board. This will include recaps of Board meetings, matters under action, reminders about grant application deadlines and more.

Things were relatively quiet over the summer holidays but we’ve had our first meeting and plenty of induction training sessions.

  • Induction programme – There is a wide and varied induction programme run by KCDC for all new elected members, covering the likes of the Long Term Plan, Annual Plan, Council Work Plan, Governance, and Standing Orders. Chair Kelsey Lee, Deputy Chair Elyse Robêrt, Cr. Himiona Grace also attended a pōwhiri and briefing for newly elected members, hearing from representatives of Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga, Ngāti Toa Rangatira and Te Āti Awa.
  • Community noticeboard, peace pole, water tap: the wild wind we had a few weeks back took down the noticeboard. Paekākāriki Volunteer Fire Brigade safely removed it for us, and we have arranged for KCDC to reinstate it in the coming weeks.
  • Funding decisions: $500 towards the Paekākāriki Stuff Library establishment, $500 towards the install costs for a water tank at the POG gardens and orchard.
