Paekākāriki in pictures

Fiona Gunter-Firth takes us on a photographic journey around the village.

I studied photography in my late teens using a 35mm film camera and worked for a short time in darkrooms. I left photography behind as my passion was film, only back in the 1970s women were not welcome in the New Zealand film industry as camera technicians. So I found a place in the art department, then in later years the arts and festival sectors. Coming full circle, my interest in photography has reignited. I’m now learning to wrangle a modern whizz bang DSLR digital camera. I love form and structure – images of our village reflect that.
