Robina’s Reflections

Here are some of Robina’s Paekākāriki Reflections in Haiku form.

1

We all turn to dust …

So am I sweeping away

Wee specks of people?

2

My room with a view

Is a newly formed space

Where I contemplate…

3

Midwinter beach but

Swimmers swim, musician plays

And fisher people fish.

5

Winter – whipped white waves

Gambol like lambs in spring grass.

Pale winter beach day.

6

Frosty morning grass

Yet two rabbits venture out

From freezing burrows.

7

Drinking coffee as

I watch the hillside breathing

Under its rocky ribs,

Or is this one of

Those throwbacks to an acid trip

Taken long ago.

8

Laughter

Babies’ eyes crinkle,

Big dribbly mouths stretch and curve.

My granny heart pops.

9

Local knitters say

Too cold now to be naked.

Here’s a sleeve.

10

Winter

Naked winter trees

Warming their trunks in pale sun

Willing new leaf growth.

11

Sea birds in a flock

Form a line like a kite tail.

Flying to the north.

12

Summer time today

Disguised in warm, smooth, pale gray.

Winter Solstice close.

13

Waiting for a train

On the platform in the rain

But it hasn’t come.

14

Icy, prickin’ rain

Pierces wee holes in my skin

To keep my face fresh

15

Farewell golden ball.

Kia ora moon, just a half,

Never half a sun

(Or …)

16

Sunny afternoons

Always too shy to undress

And shed morning cloud.

17

Why does rain falling

Persuade people to stay in?

Put on your raincoat

(Why does falling rain

Persuade people to stay in?

Put your raincoat on.)

18

Foxton you beauty,

A toilet stop and sunshine –

Nothing more required.

19

More rain has fallen,

Grass is springing and greening

Under a clear sky.

20

A glorious day,

Sea and sky of many blues.

Oystercatchers run.

21

A train ticket still

Fascinating for two kids

Travelling today.

22

Anzac poppies grow

On driftwood branches here in

Aotearoa.

23

Rainbow up ahead.

Palette of bright colours to

Paint when the rain goes.
