Paekākāriki is a unique village, nestled between the sea and the hills. It is also a lovely seaside haven for rodents and other pests!

Rats are inherently wary and resourceful. There’s a reason they have successfully colonised every continent except Antarctica. Just because you have never seen them, doesn’t mean they are not around.

It is rare that we see rats in our day to day comings and goings, and when we do we are often both caught unawares. Predator Free Paekākāriki have heard some great tales from locals over the years, from rodents feasting on the one prize lemon on the tree in broad daylight, to a couple of black birds taking on a stoat. These tales are too good not to be shared and we would love to hear yours!

Share your tale and go in the draw to win one of our kindly donated prizes. Email predatorfreepaekakariki@ gmail.nz or share via the Predator Free Paekākāriki Facebook page.

The tales shared will be collated and published as a collection on Paekakariki.nz.

A big thank you to our ongoing supporters, Fix and Fogg for donating non-human consumable peanut butter bait, which is freely available to our local trappers. In the past 3 years we have now distributed over 60kg for trapping in the village!
