Paekākāriki Pops started from small beginnings and is going from yummy-goodness strength-to-strength. Amy Delahunty tells us about their journey.
Paekākāriki Pops began its journey the way so many good things do – from a Playcentre fundraiser back in 2016. Chrissy Vize and Amy Delahunty have been friends since they were 13 years old, and very happily found themselves both raising children in Paekākāriki at the same time. Chrissy had been running a small market stall in Melbourne making popsicles, and when they made some together for the Playcentre Bonanza, the positive feedback made us think we could take it further.
Five years later we are creating handmade real fruit popsicles from a commercial property in the heart of Paekākāriki, providing pops to the people via home delivery, events and various stockists from Wellington to Ōtaki.
The popsicles are made from real fruit, and contain no dairy, gluten or added colourings and flavourings. Flavours include delicious combinations such as Ginger, Lime & Lemongrass; Blackberry Lemonade with Mint; and the extremely popular Roasted Plum & Vanilla Coconut Yoghurt.
We also created a special Rainbow Pop that is only made once a year to tie in with the Rainbow In the Village Paekākāriki Pride Festival – a time-consuming but super yummy pop with stripes of five different fruity flavours and colours.
Summer is always a busy time for the business, and while the Covid Alert Levels may pose some challenges, we are gearing up for another fun and pop-filled season. Check us out on www.paekakarikipops.co.nz or on Facebook/Instagram for all the info around home delivery, lists of stockists, and what events you can find us at. And keep an eye out for the cute pop caravan doing the rounds this summer!
Paekākāriki.nz is a community-built, funded and run website. All funds go to weekly running costs, with huge amounts of professional work donated behind the scenes. If you can help financially, at a time when many supporting local businesses are hurting, we have launched a donation gateway.
