Mānawatia a Matariki! | Matariki Night Market at Paekākāriki School

June 27 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

5pm – 8pm Thursday 27 June at Paekākāriki School

Wrap up warm and celebrate Matariki at Paekākāriki School!

An event for the whole community to come together with food, music, stalls, activities and a fireworks display.

Chuck on your woolies and come to kura on Thursday, 27 June – the day before the Matariki public holiday – from 5-8pm. The whole village is invited!

There will be delicious dinner options to purchase, such as woodfire pizzas made on the spot, pulled pork & slaw in a bun, a classic sausage sizzle, African mafe on rice, and a warm dessert bar and light-up candy floss for dessert! Plus FREE hot chocolate for the kids!

There will also be FREE glow-in-the-dark face painting and an awesome blacklight cave area where they can show it off, a magical light walk behind the school, and telescope star-gazing on the field (cloud dependant!).

Be entertained by a lineup of fantastic local musicians and performers, including Paekākāriki School’s kapa haka group, the Ukulele Group, Himi & Julia, The New Things, and Brand New Second Hand, and browse the treasures being sold at the array of stalls.

The local remembrance tree on the corner of Wellington & Ocean Rds will also be open the whole week. A beautiful pohutakawa that normally lights up at Christmas, the lovely Val & Pat will be providing pens and paper for anyone to write down memories or thoughts of loved ones that are no longer with us and display them on the tree.

The evening will end with a short fireworks display on the school side of Tarawa St at approx 7.45pm.

We hope that you can join us!

We’ll also be collecting for Kāpiti Foodbank, so bring an item of food as your ‘entry fee’ and add it to the collection.

Please note that the intention of this event is to create a community celebration, and any cost is just to cover expenses. If there is any money left at the end, it will be donated to the ongoing PTA effort to fundraise for a new outdoor play area.

This is an alcohol, smoke-free and dog-free event – thanks for understanding.
