Predator Free Paekākāriki

Predator Free Paekākāriki (previously known as Paekākāriki Rat Pack), is a volunteer, not-for-profit, community effort to rid Paekākāriki of predators.

We would love for you to join us in making Paekākāriki predator free! Removing predator species helps to protect all of our native flora and fauna. We have seen tūī and kererū numbers boom over recent years, next we want to see kākā and kākāriki! Join our group and we’ll help you get started trapping in your backyard!

To have any chance at ridding our village of rodents we need to have traps in every 1 in 5 properties across Paekākāriki to ensure sufficient coverage. From the information we have at hand as @ June 2022, we are sitting at about 1 in 10, halfway there!

Predator Free Paekākāriki is working in partnership with Ngā Uruora, and other world-class conservation groups in the area. For more information about the work to create a Kāpiti Mainland Island click here.

  • Backyard trapping – the more traps the better! If you would like to order a trap please complete this form. Traps are $25 or 2 for $40 in a safe wooden tunnel, with any proceeds going to Ngā Uruora for conservation on the escarpment and our local little penguins/kororā.

Registering your trap and tracking progress:

It is important part of our predator free goal.  Registering your trap helps us ensure we have sufficient coverage in the village and reporting what you catch (or don’t catch) helps monitor the success of backyard trapping and identify areas we need to improve on.

Predator Free Paekākāriki uses Trap.NZ, used nationally as a predator trapping and monitoring data management system, developed and managed right here in the village!

Join the Trap.nz Predator Free Paekākāriki project here, and follow this trap.nz guide and help Predator Free Paekākāriki keep track of traps and catches, working toward predator free goal.

Any problems please email us [email protected] and we will help sort you out.
