A weasel caught at Campbell Park!

Weasels may look small and relatively harmless, but they are ruthless predators. Not only are they a threat to our native species, including our skink and gecko populations, but also our chicken flocks, having lost one of our chickens to a weasel or stoat attack! See comments for recent study into the diets.

These traps are part of new community trap lines we setup around the village this year, thanks to a conservation grant from Wellington Zoo In the year to date these new traps have caught 271 pests, including 4 weasels, 5 possums, and 88 rats!

Thanks Wellington Zoo, and the local volunteer team who have managed the grant and reports, and countless hours setting and checking the trap lines.
